What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Common symptoms of COVID-19 are like those found with illnesses such as a cold or influenza. You may have one or more of the following:

  • new or worsening cough
  • sneezing and runny nose
  • fever
  • temporary loss of smell or altered sense of taste
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath

Less common symptoms of COVID-19 may include diarrhoea, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, malaise, chest pain, abdominal pain, joint pain or confusion/irritability. These almost always occur with one or more of the common symptoms.

Symptoms tend to arise around two to five days after a person has been infected but can take up to 14 days to show. The virus can be passed onto others before they know they have it – from up to two days before symptoms develop.

What can I do to stop COVID-19 spreading?

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or by covering your mouth and nose with tissues.

  • Put used tissues in the bin or a bag immediately.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water often (for at least 20 seconds).

  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

  • Avoid personal contact, such as kissing, sharing cups or food with sick people.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as doorknobs.

  • Stay at home.

  • Call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 if you have any symptoms and have been recently been overseas or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19.

What if I think I have symptoms of COVID-19?

After exposure to someone who has COVID-19, do the following:

Call your health care provider or COVID-19 hotline to find out where and when to get a test.

Cooperate with contact-tracing procedures to stop the spread of the virus.

If testing is not available, stay home and away from others for 14 days.

While you are in quarantine, do not go to work, to school or to public places. Ask someone to bring you supplies.

Keep at least a 1-metre distance from others, even from your family members.

Wear a medical mask to protect others, including if/when you need to seek medical care.

Clean your hands frequently.

Stay in a separate room from other family members, and if not possible, wear a medical mask.

Keep the room well-ventilated.

If you share a room, place beds at least 1 metre apart.

Monitor yourself for any symptoms for 14 days.

Call your health care provider immediately if you have any of these danger signs: difficulty breathing, loss of speech or mobility, confusion or chest pain.

Stay positive by keeping in touch with loved ones by phone or online, and by exercising at home.

Access to Medication

There is currently no need to panic about the supply of prescription medication in New Zealand so there is no need to bulk buy. However, we do recommend that you don’t allow your regular and essential prescription medications to almost run out before you organise a new prescription.

At this stage our opening hours will remain the same (8.30am-5.30pm) Monday - Friday.

If your requirement is not urgent we suggest you email us or phone ahead for your repeat. Doing this ahead of time means you don't need to wait - just pick up and go.

We encourage you to ask your Doctor to email or fax your prescription to us (fax number is 07 5769605).

Payment

Please use paywave as much as possible. We can charge costs to an account for you to pay later via internet banking. We will have a portable Eftpos machine to allow us to process payments from the carpark.

Deliveries

We will continue to deliver medication and repeats - please feel free to use this service. Allow 24 hours for your delivery as we are unsure what load this service will be under. This is a FREE service. If you are comfortable having your medication left in your letterbox let us know. Otherwise we will knock at your door, leave the medicine on the doorstep and step back to keep our social distance. Again, we would prefer no cash transactions.
